Furioso has been awarded the Tre Bicchieri

The wait is over and the new Vini d’Italia 2021 guide is finally here. Another success for Assuli and another Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso award for Furioso, this time for the 2017 vintage

An even more rewarding success since the great cultural and conceptual work behind this Perricone and a well-deserved prize for those who have always strongly believed in the potentiality of this variety.  Furioso is the result of a several-year work to recover the relic variety Perricone, true expression of the Sicilian tradition, once very popular and today almost disappeared. This grape variety is characterized by elegant but complex aromas with intense but fine scents.

“Furioso is an elegant wine that is worth waiting for. I particularly appreciate this wine because it clearly expresses the power and intensity of the tannins. Its scents slowly reveal themselves until you find yourself completely immersed in an ocean of different sensations. Flowers and fruit with hints of balsamic. Aromas and flavors complete each other combined with a delicate tannin that enriches the overall taste. A great, profound and sapid wine”, this is how the winemaker Lorenzo Landi describes it.

Assuli aims to enhance the territory of origin: each wine has unique characteristics with a well recognizable style and a precise identity. Through the great care from the vineyard to the bottle we express the special richness of the indigenous varieties, even those forgotten and almost disappeared. Today we grow our Perricone in the plot surrounding the winery in Carcitella (Mazara del Vallo).

Fun fact: the bond with the land is also expressed through its name, that comes from the “Orlando Furioso”, famous epic poem by Ludovico Ariosto. This wine is the symbol of the deep love that the knight Orlando feels for Angelica, so deep that after her treason, he goes mad, hence “furioso”, and loses his mind. An allegory of the human life made of “arme et amor” (fight and love).

The tasting of the wines awarded the Tre Bicchieri will be host in Rome, on October 18, 2020.
