Double Gold Medal for Furioso and Fiordiligi at the CMB

This year, a total of 7376 wine samples were submitted to the jury of international professionals.

Double gold medal for Assuli:the Sicilian winery has in fact received the official communication of the first place for its winesFurioso ’18 (100% Perricone)andFiordiligi ’20 (100% Grillo) at the renowned international wine competition Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, held this year in Cosenza, Italy, from 19 to 22 May.     

7,376 wines entered, of which 5,083 reds and 2,293 whites from 40 producing countries, evaluated by 320 judges from 45 nations. The main objective of the competition is to offer consumers a guarantee: to recognise wines of impeccable quality, pleasant to taste, from the 4 corners of the world, in all price ranges. With thirty years of experience it is an important landmark among the international wine awards. Belgium is proud to organize this unique meeting of its kind, known and recognized by both professionals and consumers around the world.

In just one day – commented the President of Assuli Roberto Caruso – our wines, a white and a red, received two gold medals: a double recognition that gives us great satisfaction because it confirms our qualitative growth and reconfirms the successes and appreciations on an international level. We have developed an important sales network on the European markets and, also by leveraging the latest awards, we aim to be increasingly widespread in national distribution”.

FURIOSO 2018. 100% Perricone DOC Sicilia. The grapes come from Carcitella vineyards, the largest of the Assuli plots (65 hectares, 120/150 m. above sea level), in the Mazara del Vallo (TP) area. Here the land is of medium texture, rich in limestone and shell with good mineral content Vinification: soft destemming and pressing and traditional fermentation with maceration of 25-30 days. Very soft extraction of the noble compounds of the skins carried out by traditional pumping over. Fermentation temperature 26-27°C. Ageing: 12 months in large oak barrels, then 12 months in the bottle.

Sensory analysis

Visual: intense ruby red colour with purple reflections // On the nose: intense aromas of ripe red fruit, graphite, violet // Flavour: good balance accompanied by soft tannins.

Pairing: Excellent with roast meats and medium-aged cheeses.

FIORDILIGI 2020. 100% Grillo DOC Sicilia. The grapes come from Carcitella vineyards, the largest of the Assuli plots (65 hectares, 200/250 m. above sea level), in the Mazara del Vallo (TP) area. Here the land is of medium texture, rich in limestone and shell with good mineral content Vinification: very soft pressing with a membrane press, subsequent static clarification of the musts and fermentation at a controlled temperature between16°/17°C in steel vats. Ageing: in steel vats for 4-5 months “sur lies” and subsequent ageing in the bottle for at least 2-3 months.

Sensory analysis

Visual: straw yellow with evident greenish reflections // On the nose: it immediately offers an elegant range of citrus fruit which blends perfectly with strong hints of pineapple // Taste: in line with the olfactory sensations, fresh with an achieved harmony of salinity and minerality.

Pairing: excellent when paired with first courses and fried fish.
